Chesapeake HOG Chapter code of conduct
We are a diverse group of riding enthusiasts connected by our shared interest in Harley Davidson motorcycles. We ride safely and show consideration for the communities that we visit. Our members and guests support a respectful, open and welcoming environment.
Discrimination, harassment, intimidation, threats or illegal activities have no place in our group. Aggressive or demeaning language or behavior will not be tolerated. Harassment includes language or conduct that is threatening, derogatory or offensive to others.
- Consuming alcohol is not permitted on group rides until after the Road Captain states the ride has ended.
- Illegal drug usage is not allowed.
- Members are expected to treat fellow members and guests with courtesy, integrity and respect.
- In no event should any member conduct themselves in a way that could bring discredit to the good reputation of the Club or our Dealership.
- If you observe or have been impacted by any such behavior, please contact one of our Board Members and we will address it promptly and discreetly.
- Members or guests not abiding by our code of conduct will be asked to leave the event and may be barred from further group activities up to and including removal from the Chapter at the Dealership’s discretion.
our rules
When we go out on the road, yes we want to have fun, but we also want to make sure that everyone participating in the ride is safe. We do not want to over-police rides, but make no mistake: a safe and successful ride requires discipline, control, restraint, concentration and
constant alertness from everybody, so remember the rule: If you join the ride, stick to the rules!
You join a ride at your own risk and The Chesapeake HOG Chapter Committee members, Road Captains and any other persons associated with the organization of rides in general can take no responsibility for loss, damage or injury to persons or property howsoever caused.
- Make sure that YOU are: awake, sober, fed, watered, and properly dressed. Your bike is roadworthy: tires, brakes, indicators, lights, steering, suspension, oil.
- Full tank of fuel. Don’t forget your mobile phone.
- Check the weather forecast beforehand and be prepared.
- Arrive, at the latest, 15 minutes prior to the stated departure time.
- Don’t arrive at the last minute, or you may miss the briefing.
- To keep the length of the column as short as possible we will be riding in staggered formation where it is safe and space and road type allow.
- If the road has narrow lanes in each direction, the formation will assume a single file.
- The recognised safe distance apart (thinking and braking distance) in fine weather is 2 seconds.
- The safe distance apart in the wet or at night is a minimum of 4 seconds.
- We do NOT ride side-by-side.
- Do NOT break rank except by pre-arrangement, or in case of emergency or difficulty.
- All bikes shall have their front and rear lights on at all times when moving.
- When a column pulls up at a junction, traffic lights or road works, close up and form a double file (not staggered) to compact the column and occupy as little space as possible.
You join a ride at your own risk and The Chesapeake HOG Chapter Committee members, Road Captains and any other persons associated with the organization of rides in general can take no responsibility for loss, damage or injury to persons or property howsoever caused.
- Observe the Highway Code as well as all relevant legal and statutory obligations associated with riding a machine on the public highway.
- Ensure that you are sufficiently skilled to take part in a ride
- If at any time you feel that an act if performed by you would be rash, unsafe or unlawful then you should not do it.
- You have a duty of care to your fellow riders, to other road users and to pedestrians to act in a safe and responsible manner.
